Malicounda combined-cycle TPP

Description

Expected year of commissioning: 2020

Wartsila signed the deal with Melec Power Gen (MPG), an independent power producer and subsidiary of Lebanese group Matelec, to build the Malicounda plant, which will initially run on heavy fuel oil (HFO) before being retrofitted to natural gas.

Wartsila said its Flexicycle technology combines the advantages of a flexible single-cycle plant with the superb efficiency of a combined cycle plant and is based on a gas, multi-fuel, or liquid fuel power plant combined with a steam turbine.

The power plant would use seven Wartsila 50 engines.

In 2018, Senegal and Mauritania signed an agreement to jointly develop the huge gas resources within the two countries and channel some of it to the generation of electricity.
