Small Hydropower World Portal

Small Hydropower World Portal

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and the International Center on Small Hydro Power (ICSHP) have developed an interactive web platform which seeks to identify the world's small hydropower development status and its potential in different countries and regions by engaging with stakeholders to share information. The most of the data available in the portal is related to the World Small Hydropower Development Report 2013 (WSHPDR 2013; Liu, H., Masera, D. and Esser, L., eds 2013). The project represents a world-first compilation of global small hydropower data, and aims to be a crucial policy and investment guide for renewable energy provision through small hydropower.

Considering the ECOWAS Region, there is data for the following Member States: Liberia, Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Benin, Togo, Guinea, Mali, Burkina Faso and Côte d'Ivoire. Taking a look to the global figures, 11% of the small hydropower capacity identified for the region is installed (82 MW installed capacity over 743 MW of identified potential capacity).

The following contents are available on the website: dinamic map viewer to visualize the installed SHP capacity and potential SHP capacity by regions and countries, news section, contributing organizations, technical notes and different options to download the World Small Hydropower Development Report 2013, global report or  by regions and countries.
