Togo Inaugurates 50MW Maiden Solar Plant

ECREEE - Praia, - 24TH June 2021 - The government of Togo has recently inaugurated a 50-megawatt state-of-the-art solar plant as part of efforts to reduce the country’s dependency on fossil fuel. The facility dubbed Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed solar power plant is the country’s maiden renewable energy facility and one of the largest solar plants in West Africa. The project was funded under the IRENA-ADFD Project.

Small Hydropower Technical Guidelines

TGs for the development of SHP

UNIDO, in cooperation with the International Centre on Small Hydropower (INSHP), through global expert cooperation based on successful experiences, developed the Small Hydropower Technical Guidelines (TGs) to meet the demand coming from Member States. TGs address the current limitations of the regulations applied to the technical guidelines for SHP Plants by applying the expertise and best practices from across the globe. The intention behind TGs is for countries to utilize those guidelines to support their current policy, technology and ecosystems.

Burkina Faso counts with the first solar module factory in West Africa

Faso Energy has begun manufacturing solar pannels in the first solar module factory in West Africa. Located in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, will produce both mono and multicrystalline modules. The panels, which will have a power range of 100 W to 325 W, will be commercialized mostly in the African markets.

Nigeria issues an Expression of Interest to build several off-grid solar projects

The Nigerian Federal Ministry of Power seeks for the provision of adequate and reliable power supply to drive the socio-economic development of the country and is inviting experienced and competent bidders to tender for the installation of several off-grid solar projects such as mini-grids and solar street lights.

Senegal introduces VAT exemption for Renewable Energy products

In July 2020, the Ministry of Energy of the ECOWAS member state announced the signature of the adapted bill exempting VAT for the production of renewable energies related to solar, wind and biogas energy. This milestone establishes a new effort of the West African country in its way to promote the use of renewable energy to increase the energy access to the urban and rural population.

 

Burkina Faso calls for tenders for the construction of three solar plants

The national public utility as the contracting authority, SONABEL, is inviting interested companies to tender for the construction, exploitation and maintenance of three solar plants: Dori (6 MWp), Diapaga (2 MWp) and Gaoua (1 MWp). The public call for tenders will be open until the 5th of October 2020.
