Inaugurated Senegal’s first utility-scale wind farm

Parc Eolien Taiba N’Diaye (PETN) was officially inaugurated in February 2020. The project is Senegal’s first utility-scale wind energy project and aligns with the Government of Senegal’s strategy of increasing clean electricity production and diversifying Senegal’s energy mix. The project is also expected to help reduce the cost of electricity generation in Senegal, which has one of the highest generation costs in Sub-Saharan Africa. PETN will be one of the lowest cost producers of electricity in Senegal.

Technical Assistance to Support the Formulation of Brava Sustainable Island Project in Cabo Verde

The Luxembourg Agency for Development Cooperation (LuxDev) launches a Call for expressions of interest for the acquisition of services to support the formulation of Brava Sustainable Island Project. The specific objective of this consultancy is to support the formulation of the project with links to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and to help prepare the next steps required for its future implementation. The deadline for Expression of Interest (EoI) is 19th of March.

The Nigerian Energizing Education Program inaugurates its first solar hybrid plant

The 2,8 MW solar hybrid plant is part of the Energizing Education Program (EEP) implemented by the federal government through the Rural Electrification Agency. The objective of this program is to equip the main education centers with their own power generation units.

Kita PV power plant in Mali will be commissioned at the beginning of 2020

The solar power plant of Kita (Akuo Energy) with an installed capacity of 50 MW will be commissioned at the beginning of 2020. It will be the first grid connected solar power plant in Mali, and will set a new record in terms of on-grid solar installed capacity of a PV power plant in the ECOWAS region.

Call for International Tender – Agence Togolosaise d’Electrification Rurale et des Energies Renouvelables - Distribution of individual solar kits for off-grid electrification

Under the framework of the CIZO program and the implementation of the electrification strategy of the Togolese State, the Agence Togolaise d’Electrification Rurale et des Energies Renouvelables (AT2ER) is inviting interested candidates to present finance and technical proposition for the service of distributing individual solar kits for off-grid electrification.

The selected private operator will be in charge of the supply, installation and maintenance of the solar kits under PAYGO business mode and will have a license contract with the Togolese State.

A step forward for the Segou PV project of 33 MW in Mali

Scatec Solar and its partners signed in May 2019 an amendment to the Segou project concession agreement with the Government of the ECOWAS country. The signing took place in the presence of Mali’s Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, as well as the Norwegian Prime Minister. The project has been awarded economic support from The Norwegian Agency for Development Corporation, both related to project development and for grid infrastructure investments that will be transferred and operated by the national utility, EDM, after the project is completed.
