The government has signed an agreement with Cenpower Generation Company Limited (CGCL), in local company, for the establishment of an independent power plant at Kpone in the Greater Accra Region.
The project which is expected to take off in 2013 will cost US$ 600 million.
Known as the Kpone Independent Power Plant, the project when completed in 2015 will generate 340 mega watts of power for the national grid.
According to a statement issued by the CGCL after the agreement had been signed in Accra, the plant would operate on both natural gas and liquid fuel, ensuring availability of high or continuous power.
The statement said a 20-year power purchase agreement had also been signed between the CGCL and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
