Rural Electrification in Benin: Yayi Boni launches the project of electrification of 67 villages

The President of the Republic of Benin, accompanied by the Minister of Energy Barthélémy Kassa, on the 2nd of January, 2014, launched the electrification project of sixty-seven (67) new communities within the city of Abomey-Calabi. The people of Abomey-Calabi were mobilized to expressed their gratitude to Boni Yayi.

In his welcome address, the mayor of the community of Abomey-Calabi recalled  the many development activities initiated by the President Boni Yayi for the people of Benin, in particular the city Abomey-Calabi . According to Patrice Hounsou-Guèdè, the actions of the leader of the State have revolutioned all sectors of development since 2006 and the energy sector is indeed a clear example of it.

This  project is the fourth major project undertaken by the President Boni Yayi to improve the population's access to energy, especially those population in remote areas. This project will lead to the electification of over 1300 rural communities electrified since 2006, as against the 5000 communities in Benin. Moreover the project will also lead to 75% the number of towns electrified. The Minister Barthélémy Kassa also announced the closure of the financing for the electrification of 100 new communities. As the project begins in 2014, Benin Republic will have the highest rates of electrification in the sub-region. He did not fail to recall the comprehensive plan developed by the government to boost the national energy production in the country to about in 200MW
