The Centre undertakes activities in the scope of five thematic programs which aim at the mitigation of barriers for the deployment and application of RE&EE technologies and services in the region. The five thematic programs can be described as follows:
* Tailored policy, legal and regulatory frameworks and quality standards;
* Capacity development and training;
* Advocacy, awareness raising, knowledge management and networking;
* Investment and business promotion through tailored financial mechanisms;
* Demonstration projects and showcases with potential for regional scaling-up.
Most of the activities are implemented by ECREEE in cooperation with the private and public sector, civil society and other national or international institutions with energy mandates (e.g. WAPP, ERERA, IRENA, UNIDO, REEEP, GFSE). The activities directly implemented by the ECREEE Secretariat will be undertaken in cooperation with its National Focal Institutions (NFIs).
The Centre fulfills the following functions and offers the following services:
* Develop and execute regional key programs and projects with other partners and mobilize funding (participate in call for proposals and organize fund raising campaigns);
* Provide co-funding for demand-driven programs, projects and initiatives executed by the private and public sector or civil society in the region (through call for proposals and tenders);
* Think tank, lobbying agent, knowledge and advisory platform for REⅇ
* Networking agent and organization of conferences, forums and workshops;
* Facilitator for north-south and south-south cooperation and partnerships for knowledge and technology transfer.
